Physician Assistant Advanced Medical Solutions is seeking candidates to fill a position at our Baffinland Iron Mine Milne Port site. This is a long-standing, fly in and fly out, project that is located on the northern aspect of Baffin Island, NU, approximate 800 kms north of Iqaluit. The Physician Assistant will be supported by AMS’ Staff Physician and report to the Team Leader of Health and Safety on site. A broad range of skills and responsibilities listed below would be employed at this site. AMS will provide for training the PA in any of the specialized skills listed below, if required. Job Duties/Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive primary and emergency care onsite;
Prescribe medication and treatment plans;
Provide occupational health services to include audiometric testing and emergency responder medical examinations;
Review pre-employment medical examinations;
Record all patient encounters and document appropriately;
Report workplace injuries in accordance with WSCC standards and company specific programs;
Assist with Case management in collaboration with Human Resource/Return to Work to include medical absence, STD, LTD, and return to work planning;
Health promotion program management;
Collaboration with onsite management personnel for the ill and injured worker;
Collaboration with medical providers in the delivery and management of patient care;
Emergency response team medical integration training;
Medical supply ordering and stock management;
Provide drug and alcohol testing services.
Compensation Competitive market rate with minimum 4 hours paid per call back after hours. Comprehensive Group Benefits program and eligible to participate in RRSP matching program. Schedule This site follows a standard three weeks at work and three weeks off duty at home schedule. The PA would fly from their home airport to Montreal where they would be transported to the Charter airfield and then up to site. The schedule is a 12-hour shift in the clinic each day during the three-week rotation at site. Work at this site is balanced with three weeks of time spent off duty at home each rotation. Baffinland is the only mine in Canada to employ in-house mental health counsellors as well. Education/Experience
Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA), granted by the Physician Assistants Certification Council of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants, or Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C), granted by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants in the United States of America;
Current ACLS and ATLS;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Cority preferred;
Recent experience seeing undifferentiated patients in either primary, urgent, or emergency care settings;
Experience with audiometric testing and Drug and Alcohol collection, considered an asset.
