The company is the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada and has been in operation for over 70 years, primarily in Halifax. John Ross & Sons Ltd. Specializes in purchasing and processing all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.
We are currently seeking a Operations Manager to manage our team in Sussex, New Brunswick. As a large industrial facility in Atlantic Canada, we seek a hard-working, dedicated, and safety minded individual to join our team. Must have Operations Manager experience in the industrial/construction industries!
The successful candidate will be responsible for improving efficiency and increasing departmental profits while managing the company's overall operations. Several key elements within the business, include hiring staff, monitoring operating budgets, and launching price promotions that could attract more customers. You will also be responsible for supervising and promoting an accident-free and environmentally compliant workplace and will report directly to the Owners.
Other Essential Job Functions Include:
Oversee the organization in regards to day to day operations, customer traffic, vendors/suppliers, and maintain relationships with clients/customers.
Oversee all staffing and training
Ensure all direct and indirect reports are trained on the risks presented to them in the performance of their duties and that training is documented.
Ensure compliance of all employees with safety requirements, instructions and best work practices.
Manage, supervise and track all employees.
Maintain yard and department organization with all shipments received and shipped
Train and direct department employees in proper use of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Five plus years’ experience of staff management, appraisal, development and planning.
Five plus years’ experience in Operations Management in heavy industry is an asset
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience operating heavy equipment
Strong analytical and mathematical skills
Experience in cost-effective production and implementation of continuous improvement techniques
Must have excellent problem solving skills with the ability to find suitable solutions for productivity, environmental, safety-related, and employment issues.
Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Schedule:
Mon-Fri 7am-5pm
Saturdays 7am-12pm as needed
