JOB DESCRIPTION:
HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Metallurgist on behalf of our client, Calibre, Valentine Gold Mine. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 3 years of mining experience is required; gold experience is an asset.
Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Metallurgist is responsible for monitoring and reporting process plant metallurgical performance and to provide technical support to the production team to achieve company budgeted output.
This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment through personal behaviors and conversations.
  • Report all Health, Safety, and Environment incidents and participate in Health, Safety, and Environment initiatives, reviews and investigations.
  • Establish and promote a respectful and healthy work environment at all times.
  • Monitor and recommend key plant operating parameters to increase recovery and mill tons throughput.
  • Ensure cost effectiveness measures are implemented without jeopardizing gold recovery.
  • Track and manage plant operating consumables and reagent inventories for the plant and met laboratory.
  • Achieve plant recoveries through agreed metallurgical practices and procedures.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly metallurgical accounting reports. Produce daily metallurgical accounting balances and reports, perform monthly production and inventory reconciliation, and generate monthly reports.
  • Ensure effective communication lines within team and co-workers.
  • Actively promote continuous improvements to safety, operation efficiencies and reducing operational costs.
  • Manage and mentor metallurgical technician, gold room personnel and other plant operations personnel.
  • Monitor plant performance, assist in operations troubleshooting exercises and provide technical feedback and advice to operations to help achieve optimal results.
  • Identify defects in process equipment and other problems affecting process performance, ensure that the necessary repairs or modifications are included in maintenance planning.
  • Participate in the definition of metallurgical development programs aimed at optimizing the process plant.
  • Conduct technical investigations and make recommendations to Chief Metallurgist regarding possible process improvements as well as prepare technical reports on the investigations.
  • Develop and conduct metallurgical testwork programs in the met laboratory to mimic plant operating conditions and advise on optimization works and recommended changes.
  • Participate in maintenance planning and ensure that the needs of the process receive adequate consideration when plans are set.
  • Perform inspections on processing equipment during routine and non-routine stoppages.
  • Manage the metallurgical laboratory and all associated tasks, equipment and stock.
  • Lead assigned process improvement projects.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of SOP’s.
  • Promote and maintain a high-performance culture throughout the operation.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • A University Degree or College Diploma in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of mining experience is required; gold experience is an asset.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ATTRIBUTES:
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability/willingness to work safely with hazardous chemicals and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate data.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to interpret data – strong background in excel.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Skills in statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
  • Ability to influence and inspire others and manage cross-functional relationships.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract
