Salary: $24.44 hourly to $30.17 hourly

Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.
  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay:
  • $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays
  • $2.75 per hour for evenings

Role Responsibilities
Lead Park Rangers are passionate about protecting the environment, wildlife and park visitors. We are currently looking to hire a Lead Park Ranger for the winter season from November 1, 2024 till Mach 31, 2025 to work in the Camrose District overseeing both Blackfoot Recreation Area and Miquelon Lake.

In this winter term, the Lead Park Ranger will:
  • Assist with maintaining constructive relationships with permit holders, facility operators, volunteers, and other stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with other work area staff to ensure effective and efficient operations within their designated park or district
  • Oversee revenue collection and reconciliation duties

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Lead Park Ranger (NR4):
  • High school diploma and one-year related experience
  • Equivalencies one year experience for one year education, or one year education for one year experience will be considered.

Additional education and experiences include:
  • Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in or having completed post-secondary education in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Recreation or Tourism Management, Conservation Enforcement, Education or other related programs.
  • Preference may be given to candidates having experience in Parks, Lands, Wildfire, Public Education, or roles that require strong communication skills

Additional Requirements:
  • Current Standard First aid with CPR C and AED – Expiry after March 31, 2025
  • Class 5 Driver's License with less that 6 demerits
  • Successful applicants must produce a Driver’s Abstract
  • Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check

Assets to the role include the following:
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Acts and Legislation
  • Conflict Management/Conflict Resolution experience
  • Front Facing Customer Service experience; good public communication skills
  • Public Communication or Education experience
  • Outdoor skills certifications
  • Knowledge of Alberta flora and fauna
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture
  • Incident Command Systems familiarity (ICS)
  • Chainsaw certification
  • Strong computer skills

  • Work various shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Have the opportunity to work up to 36.25 hours per week and paid for the number of hours worked
  • Have good physical stamina to be able to perform manual duties outdoors and in any type of weather conditions, rain or shine
