Our Parks, Recreation and Culture Department are looking for seasonal labourers to work in the Horticulture division. Our season normally runs from March until November each year. Duties include, but are not restricted to:
Planting bulbs, annuals, and shrubs
Weeding garden beds
Pruning
Grass cutting
Grass edging
Performing related duties as required
Qualifications include up to high school graduation; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires knowledge and skill in the methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in horticulture maintenance work. Related education, as well as landscaping and horticulture landscape experience are considered essential; and hands-on experience with related tools and equipment is also required. This position involves continuous heavy physical work in all weather conditions. The ability to maintain a very high standard of work is critical for success in this role. Other desired attributes include excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public. Valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
