Duties
Please note that the majority of these tasks are carried out primarily in the workshop.
Overhaul, maintenance, repair and fitting-out of small vessels, for Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) operational programs, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) programs, such as Science, Hydrography, Conservation & Protection, Fisheries Management, and other government departments. Ensures small vessels meet Transport Canada marine safety self-inspection regulatory requirements.

Develops, recommends and/or implements economically and environmentally sustainable practices in support of the Life Cycle Asset Management System (LCAMS) program and CCG and DFO priorities.

Carries out the new installation and preventative and corrective maintenance (including overhaul, refit, repair, configuration changes, tests and inspection) of hull, mechanical and electrical systems on small vessels, small craft and their trailers and other associated equipment.

STUDIES
A secondary school diploma.
OR
A professional studies diploma in a field relevant to the duties of the position, such as Heavy duty equipment mechanics(#7312)*, Automotive service technician (#7321), Recreational vehicle mechanics (#7334) or a combination of experience and/or education related to the position to be filled.

Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
Experience in the recreational marine industry as an outboard engine mechanic or experience gained through training in the field related to the position to be filled.

Conditions of employment

Willingness and be able to travel by car, plane or boat.
