Description of Unit The Family Wellness team provides voluntary services to families of Sagkeeng; we have a strength based and holistic approach that builds and emphasizes on existing strengths. The Family wellness team offers supportive workshops, trainings and programs throughout the year in order to enhance the family unit. Family Wellness Team is guided by the 7 Sacred teachings and is proud to assist families to learn about their culture, customs and traditions in collaborationwith community, collaterals and our elders. As a member of the family wellness Team, listed below are the main areas of key responsibilities and activities of this position. General Duties:
Is accountable for providing supportive services for children, youth and families of Sagkeeng Child and family services in order to preserve the family unit using the wraparound approach.
Able to build a relationship with the families in order to assist the families during their healing journey
Works along with the case managers assigned to the families
Connects the families to internal and external resources
Ability assist with crisis support for children, youth and families
Build a supportive team with the families
Assists with program delivery; including engagement, preparation, implementation and transition.
Assists the Prevention Service Unit on hosting community initiatives and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
BSW degree preferred; or Post-secondary Degree in Social Sciences; combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience within a child & family service setting
Knowledge of the Wraparound Model is preferred
Knowledge and appreciation of Sagkeeng’s customs and traditions
Proven experience with documentation and writing
Strong knowledge of community resources and ability to maintain professional relationships with families, colleagues and collaterals
Flexible work schedule (able to work evenings, weekends, possibly holidays).
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Valid class five driver’s license and a reliable insured vehicle.
The ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language is considered an asset.
Qualified candidates will be required to undergo a criminal record check, child abuse registry check, and a prior contact check as a condition of employment.
