Summary:
The Family Resource Worker works within the Bellies and Babies and Parent-Tot programs supporting parents and caregivers with children birth to six years old. The Family Resource Worker is part of a team providing a safe and welcoming environment for families and promotes healthy pregnancies to improve maternal outcomes. The Family Resource Worker creates a safe and stimulating play and learning environment suitable for the diverse developmental needs of children ages birth to six and provides hands on support and information that will assist parents and caregivers to enhance their parenting skills and nurture their relationship with their child/children. The Family Resource Worker reports to the Program Lead.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for parents, caregivers, and children.
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for mothers, their partners, and babies.
  • Plans and provides stimulating play and a learning environment for children.
  • Facilitates connections between participants.
  • Interacts with children to develop their social skills through play.
  • Shares information and resources and facilitates discussions with families on maternal and infant nutrition, infant care, development, and breastfeeding
  • Encourages positive parent participation in play activities, offering feedback and suggestions, when requested or required
  • Refers families to appropriate community resources as needed.
  • Assists with food preparation and serving of lunch to program participants.
  • Facilitates conflict resolution and supports parents and caregivers in conflict resolution involving their children.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency working with Indigenous families and community.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency working with newcomers.
  • Role models family centred strategies when supporting parents to understand their child’s behaviour.
  • Follows protocol to ensure all toys and equipment meet safety standards.
  • Collaborates and works respectfully with colleagues to ensure effective service delivery consistent with agency and program mandate.
  • Responsible for giving survey forms to families to aid in collection of material relevant to reporting or accreditation.
  • Adheres to SCCSS policies and procedures and meets all legal, contractual, and financial and other compliance requirements required by institutions such as Health Canada and CARF.
  • Represents SCCSS in a positive and professional manner.
  • Stays current with SCCSS programs and services.
  • Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.
  • Assists the Program Lead in creating a learning environment for students and volunteers
  • Attends monthly staff meeting as set by the program Lead.
Qualifications:
  • Early Childhood Education or Family Resource Worker training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with women both pre-and-postnatal.
  • Group facilitation skills are an asset.
  • Experience working with families with young children.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, infant development, breastfeeding, and pregnancy issues.
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid (including infant CPR) required
  • Good understanding of and experience working with vulnerable families.
  • Experience working in a program with a family-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with participants in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner.
  • Experience working across cultures respectfully.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Successful result and maintenance of Criminal Record check.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required to attend programs across the Coast.
  • Food Safe certification is an asset.
