SUMMARY
Berkshire Hathaway Energy (BHE) Canada is a Canadian subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy focused on identifying and investing in business opportunities related to all aspects of the energy infrastructure market across Canada. BHE Canada currently owns and operates a 130 MW wind farm, a 20 MW natural gas-fired power plant, and a high voltage transmission line in Alberta. BHE Canada is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.
BHE Canada is expanding its operations through a new power marketing subsidiary called Alberta Ex. This role provides an exciting opportunity to join a growing team as Alberta Ex starts commercial operations in 2025. Reporting to the Manager, Power Marketing, the primary duties of this position involve analyzing power market conditions across Alberta and the Pacific Northwest and developing and communicating trading strategies for the Energy Trading Team. As the business grows and develops, the scope of this role will evolve.
Key Accountabilities:

• Develop market analysis reports and forecasting models to identify trading opportunities, and report on changing conditions across North American power markets. This includes: supply and demand modeling, price forecasting, and commentary on market fundamentals.
• Continuously refine and test models to improve accuracy and data validation.
• Manage databases and dashboards to support trading activities.
• Perform web data extractions and process automations to ensure timely access to critical market information.
• Maintain and update Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) systems to ensure accurate trade capture, risk assessment, and reporting.
• Actively participate in strategy discussions and shadow senior traders to gain a deeper understanding of trading strategies and market dynamics.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; an advanced degree would be an asset.
• Programming experience in querying, data management, and automation (using tools such as Python, SQL, or Excel VBA), with the ability to handle large datasets and build efficient workflows.
• Strong analytical skills in quantitative analysis and spreadsheet modelling.
• Familiarity with energy markets, particularly in Alberta and the Pacific Northwest, is a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment and handle multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Desire to learn and gain experience in complex and dynamically changing energy markets.
• Proven track record of good performance and attendance.
