As a Trade Instructor – Waste Management at Acacia Prison, you will provide inmates with vocational training and employment opportunities, supporting their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into the community. This is a full-time, permanent role where you’ll work as part of a dynamic team focused on fostering skills development in a respectful and secure environment.
As a Trade Instructor in the Waste Management team, you’ll make a positive impact by:
Delivering employment in waste management to improve inmate employability
Conducting daily tool audits, managing equipment maintenance, and overseeing inmate safety in the work area
Promoting the value of employment, education and vocational training within the correctional facility
Supporting the rehabilitation of inmates by encouraging program participation and providing valuable skill-building opportunities
Ensuring compliance with Work Health & Safety policies and correctional standards

You are an experienced professional with a passion for Industries training and rehabilitation. You are organized, safety-conscious, and dedicated to maintaining a secure and respectful workspace.
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:
Relevant qualifications in Waste Management or the willingness to attain them within 12 months
Trade qualifications in construction or other fields will be looked at favourably.
Strong knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety requirements in a workshop or industry setting
A commitment to cultural awareness, with an understanding of diverse ethnic backgrounds and needs
Experience in vocational training and an ability to engage adult learners
A valid Driver’s License and Forklift License
