We are seeking a highly motivated senior Health Manager to work with the dynamic Clinical Governance Unit team, for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN).
This is a full time permanent HSM 4 role that supports and leads the Patient Safety Program and is responsible for the reporting and analysis of patient safety systems, including patient safety legislation, processes and tools, incident management and investigation, to improve clinical safety, in line with the guiding principles of Immediacy, Accountability and Kindness.

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network incorporates The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW), Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick (SCH); Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS); Bear Cottage and Children's Court Clinic.

The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick provide care for over 120,000 families each year, incorporating 50,000 inpatient admissions, 90,000 emergency presentations and over 1 million outpatient services.


Both The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick are currently undergoing a major redevelopment. $1.3 billion in funding has been committed to build two world-class children’s hospitals and research centres at each site by 2025.


Our patients, families, health care practitioners and other hospital staff work together in policy and program development, implementation, evaluation and improvement; in health care facility design; and in professional education, as well as in the delivery of care.


What you'll be doing
The SCHN Patient Safety Manager is responsible for providing strategic advice, leadership and management of the patient safety portfolio and activities to ensure the development, implementation, monitoring and support of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Networks (SCHN) Clinical Governance Framework and the NSW Health Safety Systems model and Clinical Excellence Commission’s (CEC) Safety & Quality Essentials Pathway Program.

The SCHN Patient Safety Manager is responsible for the reporting and analysis of patient safety systems, including patient safety legislation, processes and tools, incident management and investigation, to improve clinical safety, in line with the guiding principles of Immediacy, Accountability and Kindness. These principles will support the interactions with patients, carers, staff and external stakeholders.

The SCHN Patient Safety Manager will work in collaboration with key stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, to promote and improve patient safety, to meet the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards across SCHN and identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes through enhanced reliability, patient-centeredness and quality improvement.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent healthcare work experience in a senior role, including management of patient safety principles.
  • Demonstrated high level knowledge and application of the principles of clinical governance, NSW Health patient safety policies and programs and continuous quality improvement, including experience in leading/ facilitating case reviews and/or involvement in Serious Adverse Event Reviews (SAERS).
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple issues concurrently and the capacity to critically analyse complex material, evaluate clinical services and make sound recommendations.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and experience effectively liaising, collaborating and negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders to meet the needs of a complex organisation.
  • Evidence of well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor the message to an audience, clearly explain complex concepts, write fluently in a range of styles and formats and actively listen to others. Including the preparation of reports to governing bodies and/or senior management, correspondence, presentations and committee support.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management skills and ability to work in an environment with competing and challenging priorities, time frames and KPIs, whilst working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform with resilience in a demanding role, providing leadership to the team and proactively address challenges in a respectful manner which builds team cohesion
