Principal Advisor - Health, Safety & Wellbeing

You will collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to develop, coordinate and implement health and safety management programs and initiatives.
To achieve this, you will review SES operational policies, procedures, practices and training with a strong safety and wellbeing lens.
This also included conducting safety audits and risk assessment for complex issues that likely have whole of SES impact.
You will analyse safety performance and develop solutions to continuously improve the safety of SES operations.
Additionally, you will lead the SES WHS Committee raising strategic and operational priorities, risk and improvements.

The Core Capability Requirements for this role are:
  • Provide expert, strategic advice and support to Executive and senior management on a range of complex organisational health, safety and wellbeing and injury management issues to support delivery of services and ensure compliance with organisational priorities, policy, processes and legislation.
  • Prepare advice and correspondence regarding health, safety and wellbeing programs, projects and governance, including the review and development of policies, guidelines and tools.
  • Analyse and compile accurate, timely and reliable qualitative and quantitative data from various sources to contribute to improved ways of working including monitoring trends and prepare reports for managers and stakeholders with recommendations for managing identified staff and volunteer safety and wellbeing issues.
  • Review, research, develop and evaluate a broad range of health, safety and wellbeing strategies and initiatives throughout the state including incident and hazard management recording and reporting, audits, and continuous improvement programs to ensure a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including Queensland Police Service WHS leaders and regional People Hubs, to promote and build a positive health and safety culture within the SES.
  • Ensure the completion of operational activities, such as identifying and assessing workplace hazards, conducting risk assessments and developing control strategies to address potential or existing hazards, minimise or eliminate risk to enhance safer workplaces and wellbeing of SES staff and volunteers.
  • Review and conduct complex incident investigations and safety audits including identifying risks and trends, and provide recommendations and reports to ensure SES workplaces meet their legislative and regulatory obligations.
Role Requirements:
Technical/ Operational/ Educational Experience

  • While a qualification is not essential, possession of Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or similar relevant qualification and experience in maintaining a compliant= safety management system, would be highly regarded.
Other

  • The incumbent may occasionally be required to support critical incident and disaster management responses including outside of standard hours and travel to locations throughout Queensland.
