SA Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Part-time Peer Specialist at the Noarlunga Psychosis Community Mental Health unit, located in the Adelaide Metro Southern region.
About the role:
Reporting to the Team Manager with tailored professional support from the Lived Experience Consultant – Consumer, this will play a pivotal role in supporting individuals on their journey towards recovery. Drawing from your own lived experience with mental health challenges, you will provide empathetic support, guidance and advocacy to clients. Your unique perspective and understanding will be invaluable in fostering hope, supporting resilience and empowering others in their recovery process. Duties for the role will include:
- Use lived experience expertise purposefully and in line with Lived Experience (Peer) Frameworks and knowledge bases, to support consumer skills in self-management, wellness and safety planning, and to inform the team on lived experience perspectives and recovery oriented, person-centred theory and practice.
- Assist with communication flow between consumers and the multi-disciplinary team *
- Take a lead role in ensuring that the perspectives, experiences and considerations of consumers are taken into account in the provision of care for a person receiving services.
Develop and evaluate groups for patients, with the aim of promoting an understanding of recovery, psychological wellbeing and self-management strategies
About you:
- Minimum Certificate 4 in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards.
- High level skills in building connected and authentic trusting relationships with consumers and in modelling relatable recovery pathways.
- Strong advocacy and partnership building skills to apply in a clinical mental health environment working within multidisciplinary teams.
