What you'll be doing
The Team Leader will lead a multidisciplinary “Alternatives to ED” mental health team within the SCHN Mental Health Service. This team is part of the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative which aims to reduce deaths by suicide and suicide attempts.

The team aims to provide an alternative to the emergency department (AED) in the form of Safe Haven and other suicide prevention services using a recovery oriented and trauma informed care model. SCHN Safe Haven is a suicide prevention program that provides a warm welcoming space for people aged up to 18 years experiencing suicidal crisis where compassionate care is provided in a non-clinical environment, provided by peer workers (with lived experience of suicide).

This position will provide management and support to the Safe Haven team. The Safe Haven team comprises Suicide Prevention Workers, peer and clinical, to provide specialist person centred and compassionate care to people at risk of suicide. The Safe Haven Team also helps connect young people and their carers to support services to address their underlying factors contributing to their distress.

The Team Leader will support the development and implementation of the specialist suicide Safe Haven service and other Towards Zero Suicides initiatives for the Network.
  • Tertiary qualifications, professional registration/membership as per essential requirements.
  • Proven clinical experience in working with people experiencing suicidality and their key support people
  • Applied understanding of the principles of person-centred care, trauma-informed care and recovery, as well as in working with Aboriginal people in a holistic, collaborative and respectful way.
  • Proven leadership, organisational skills, experience and demonstrated knowledge of management and/ or project management.
  • Excellent applied communication skills in a wide range of settings including verbal and written, and competence in computer skills
  • Required to work shift work including afterhours and weekends as required
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and manage service systems and performance, collect and analyse data.
