Salary: $112,917 - $141,084 (Plus 11.5% Super)

To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + by February 2025

Advanced Trainees in Geriatric medicine have the ability to complete 2 years of core training with rotations in Acute Geriatrics, Sub-acute Geriatrics, Ortho-geriatrics, and community Geriatrics.

A strong presence within the ANU medical school faculty provides trainees with the opportunity to participate in the undergraduate teaching program and ensures an adequate framework exists for research.
Duties:
Under limited direction of the Clinical Director, you will:
    Provide competent and efficient clinical management of patients within Canberra Health Services, under the supervision and direction of Consultant Geriatricians. Clinical duties will include assessment and management of acute presentations, in-patient care, diagnosis, and management of patients in outpatient clinics, community care, consultations and clinical handover.
    Participate in the supervision, training, and professional development of junior medical staff.
    Progress in training in the specialty of Geriatric Medicine, including participation in the relevant teaching program and activities, timely completion of assessments and involvement in research.
    Participate in the after-hours and weekend rosters and in Geriatric medicine and as General Medical Registrar.
    Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
    Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and the policies of the Canberra Health Services. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:
  • An Australian MBBS medical degree or equivalent
  • Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
    Success in FRACP part 1 and 2 exams (Candidates likely to meet this requirement, may also apply)
  • Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities, involvement in research, and teaching of junior medical staff and/or medical students.
  • The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional weekend and after-hours work.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems.
    You will need to understand how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
    You will need to fulfil the responsibilities of this role as detailed in the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and other related frameworks.
Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:
  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening & vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
