Event & Development Lead

The Event and Development Lead reports to the Head of Community and
Philanthropy. They work closely with the Community Engagement team,
Marketing and Communications team, Finance, Risk, Property Services,
Key Relationships Catering, and other key staff. They also engage with parents, caregivers,
families, donors, community groups, Council members, and life members
of the Council and Foundation Board. Ultimately, all staff are accountable
to the Principal.


Position Objective:
The Event and Development Lead will enhance community engagement and foster relationships to attract
and retain donors, supporters, and partners, thereby enriching Westminster School life. This role involves
building relationships with donors and key stakeholders, as well as prospecting, cultivating, and stewarding
supporters. Additionally, the position is responsible for selected community group management, organising
quality, engaging events for the school community in collaboration with various teams, and overseeing
engagement projects as directed by the Principal and Head of Community and Philanthropy.

Key Responsibilities:


Philanthropy and Fundraising

  • Cultivate and steward donors and implement stewardship plans.
  • Support aspects of fundraising processes including major gifts and annual giving campaigns.
  • Coordinate reports and documentation for fundraising projects and events.
  • Support the bequest program and encourage and confirm bequest to the school.
  • Encourage a culture of philanthropy within the Westminster School community.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to create and deliver fundraising materials, case
statements, impact reports and donor-centric communications.
  • Work with finance team to ensure timely processing and receipting for donations and
acknowledgements.
  • Manage donor data and enter donor details in Synergetic database.

Community Engagement Events and Projects
  • Organise events and projects that align with the strategic plan to achieve fundraising or community
engagement goals for the benefit of students, staff, and the school community (past and present).
  • Collaborate with key staff (Catering, Property Services, Marketing, and Communications) to ensure
smooth planning and execution.

  • Implement processes to monitor and assess the success of events and attendee satisfaction.
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to identify improvements and report outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality planning, delivery, and execution of events and projects, meeting deadlines and staying
within budget.

Community Groups

  • Act as a liaison between the organisation and community groups, addressing inquiries and providing
updates.
  • Support community groups and volunteers to plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns,
ensuring high levels of participation and success.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of community groups, providing feedback and support to
maximise their impact.
  • Support areas for improvement and make recommendations for enhancing engagement and
effectiveness.

Other Responsibilities

  • Other duties that are commensurate with the skills and experience of the position from time to time as
directed by the Community Engagement Office.
  • Flexibility will be required as some out of hours work is expected.

Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and events.
  • Proven experience in relationship management.
  • Preferred experience in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated expertise in event management using a range of methodologies.
  • Demonstrated expertise with databases and online research tools.
  • Ability to work constructively and collaboratively in a team environment.
