The Role
At the Space Capability Branch, our mission is to successfully assure the timely delivery of resilient space capabilities to enable and enhance Integrated Force effectiveness.
To support this, we are seeking a dynamic Director for our Space Domain Support Office (SDSO). With an integrated team of 10, the Space Domain Support Office has a diverse portfolio of responsibilities across the Space Capability Branch—including the delivery of Commercial, Governance, Business Operations and Workforce Management functions.
As part of the core leadership team, the Director SDSO is a pivotal role requiring strategic vision, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and a strong foundation in policy-based decision-making to spearhead key business operations.
As the Director SDSO you will:
Influence the strategic direction across the Space Domain Capability Program.
Lead communications and stakeholder management with senior leaders—both internal and external to the Space Capability Branch.
Provide expert policy analysis and strategic advice to the leadership team.
Be responsible for the development and implementation of commercial strategies, corporate governance, quality management systems and risk management strategies.
Develop policies and frameworks to ensure the effective operation of Space Capability Branch business. This includes such tasks as, business improvement and strategic planning, workforce capacity planning, recruitment, organisational change management and business support.
Drive a positive and team-oriented workplace culture where inclusion, mutual support and collaboration are encouraged, to foster a productive and enjoyable work environment.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team
Space Capability Branch is responsible for managing and coordinating Defence space capabilities in support of the Integrated Force and national security. Space Capability Branch is an integrated workforce, consisting of ADF, APS and contractors. The core focus of the branch is to centralise and concentrate effort on the management and delivery of Defence space capabilities and outcomes. The SDSO team is a dynamic and versatile, harnessing complementary skillsets.

Knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making processes and policy requirements.
Qualifications in either Business Administration, Contracting, Finance, Human Resources, Public Administration or a related discipline.
Positive interpersonal skills to foster and promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with Defence values.
An understanding of capability management processes—including external stakeholder engagement requirements.
A passion to advance Space capabilities for the betterment of Australia’s national security.
