Primary objective
The Deputy Electoral Commissioner leads and manages the administration and delivery of elections across the Northern Territory,
provides strategic advice and support to the Electoral Commissioner, drives initiatives, strategies and projects that directly support the
functions and objectives of the NT Electoral Commission (NTEC).
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Working closely with and reporting directly to the Electoral Commissioner, the Deputy Electoral Commissioner contributes to the
overall strategic direction and success of NTEC as a contemporary, independent and professional statutory authority.
2. Contribute to organisational strategic planning and translates the organisational vision and strategy into operational plans, strategies
and goals.
3. Identify emerging issues, developments, trends and impacts to the functions of the NTEC applying critical thinking and being solutions
focused.
4. Lead and support the delivery of election events, business improvements and strategic projects across the NTEC.
5. Build and maintain high-level collaborative networks and relationships with diverse stakeholder groups including election participants,
local government councils, government agencies and electoral commissions across Australia and New Zealand.
6. Represent the Electoral Commissioner in internal and external forums as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate others in a service delivery environment with a focus
on maintaining high levels of performance, continuous improvement and managing change.
2. Superior interpersonal skills, including communicating with influence and the ability to manage projects effectively to deliver
outcomes.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including highly developed facilitation and presentation skills and demonstrated
experience in preparing substantial reports and briefs.
4. Extensive experience in building networks and partnerships maintaining positive and mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues
and stakeholders, effectively managing projects and achieving shared outcomes.
5. Experience in the management of human, financial, physical, and technological resources to support service delivery in accordance
with legislation and policy.
6. Demonstrated superior levels of integrity, judgment and critical thinking with the ability to deal appropriately with confidential and
sensitive matters.
Desirable
1. Experience in a regulatory, compliance and /or operational environments.
2. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
3. An understanding of electoral legislation and processes in the Northern Territory.
