Aquaculture Production Manager

SALTAS (Salmon Enterprises of Tasmania Pty Limited) description
We are a registered Research Service Provider specialising in facilitating selective breeding services for the Tasmanian salmon farming industry through our Selective Breeding Program (SBP - https://saltas.com.au/selective-breeding-program/).
Our hatchery's mission is to produce the highest quality salmon smolt and eyed eggs, and to run an internationally recognised and award-winning selective breeding program to produce healthier, better-growing fish. Currently we have the following vacancy at our organisation:
Aquaculture Production Manager
Full Time (38 hours)
Tasmania - 289 Wayatinah Road and 675 Florentine Road, Wayatinah
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The available position is for Aquaculture Production Manager
  • This is a senior position reporting to the General Manager, and pivotal to the ongoing success of our diversified business.
  • You will be part of the management team overseeing all stages of freshwater production of Atlantic salmon.
  • Your specific focus would be on all aspects of broodstock and smolt production at our two commercial hatchery sites in central Tasmania.
  • You will be required to lead a team of 12 to 15 staff to achieve key production outcomes set in consultation with the General Manager and Hatchery Manager.
  • You will be leading daily planning of tasks within RAS and flow-through production systems to ensure optimal operation, as well as ensuring the upkeep of various plant equipment within SALTAS’s biosecurity and WHS framework.
  • A high level of competency and knowledge of the components of a modern RAS systems would be beneficial.
  • Comprehensive training will be provided as needed towards achieving mastery over each system.
  • Working with rest of management group on stock flows and production planning.
ABOUT YOU
Given the responsibility that comes with this position, the ideal candidates will have at least 5 years experience in a similar role. You will be looking for a new challenge to make a real difference in the growing Tasmanian Salmon Industry. The position requires excellent planning, people and communication skills, organisational discipline and technical mastery.

  • Previous proven experience in managing teams in a large scale commercial aquaculture hatchery environment will be advantageous
This is a full-time position. Due to the remote location of the main operational sites, flexible working arrangements will be considered including options to work some days remotely from our Kingborough-based office.
Other benefits include a fully maintained company vehicle, relocation assistance if required, and shared company accommodation when staying overnight in Wayatinah.

Qualification Requirements:
Diploma in Aquaculture or higher
