The Role
The duties of the Joint PNT Operations Support member include the following:
- Perform moderately complex engineering activities and tasks and provide support under limited direction.
- Accountable for exercising assigned engineering authorities and any Technical Regulatory Authority delegations.
- Research and contribute to the development of technical reports, briefs, presentations and documentation for review.
- Demonstrate engineering knowledge, identify priorities to research and define issues and contribute to the implementation of corrective actions.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with team members and actively participate in team work and group activities.
- Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member.
- Investigate technical and design packages and participate in the scoping, planning and reviewing of packages.
- Analyse that the delivered materiel meets requirements and legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks and contribute to engineering decisions.
- Understand and ensure safety aspects of Defence materiel systems are considered and incorporated into engineering activities and tasks.
About our Team
The establishment of the Joint PNT Directorate (JPD) delivers an integrated approach towards the unique and complex ADF PNT capability. The JPD integrated campaigning approach involves partnerships across all domains, whole of Australian government, international partners, science and technology, academia and industry. Through Joint Project 9380 Assured PNT, the Directorate is providing the ADF PNT focal point to prepare, collaborate, and transition PNT information and capabilities for the ADF.

Our Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will understand engineering disciplines, implement engineering processes and procedures to ensure technical compliance and integrity. They will communicate and engage with stakeholders, plan, develop, integrate, manage and evaluate projects and engineering management systems to deliver the engineering aspects within the Defence material capability life cycle. They will investigate and expose risk, analyse and report on engineering issues, requirements, develop and implement recommendations and advice.
The Joint PNT Operations support member will be accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve moderately complex engineering work within an integrated workforce. They will be accountable to have a good understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.
They will be accountable for organising their workflow, making decisions within their defined parameters relating to area of responsibility and will seek guidance when required. They may exercise some discretion with respect to how legislation, procedures and guidelines are interpreted and applied to their work. They will provide specialist or administrative support that is informed and directed by their knowledge of the engineering function. They may undertake some research and analysis activities.
The Joint PNT Operations Support member will be required to share information, monitor work practices, set work priorities and develop local procedures. They may supervise and provide leadership to a team, providing coaching and on-the-job training for newer and less experienced team members. They may be required to communicate with, respond and provide advice to a range of stakeholders on moderately complex operational and administrative issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
