ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A Virtual Navigator is a person who guides and assists undergraduate and graduate students in their virtual educational journey. The Virtual Navigator plays an essential role in student success by connecting online students to academic and wraparound services and providing assistance in mastering online platforms and tools. The work of the Virtual Navigator is key to supporting academic retention and persistence.
- Onboard new students to the online learning environment through orientation workshops.
- Connect students to academic and wraparound support services.
- Identify barriers to the retention and persistence of online undergraduate and graduate students.
- Identify, support, and track at-risk online students using early alert systems in partnership with faculty and staff.
- Advise students on the registration process, degree plans, program requirements, course drop/ads, withdrawals, graduation, and other processes.
- Conduct training sessions on topics related to academic success.
- Guide students in navigating online platforms and tools, including the institution's LMS, Student Information System, website, and other online learning tools.
- Proactive and periodic communication with students via telephone and email.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by university governance and all laws, policies, and administrative regulations and policies.
- Provide timely responses to student inquiries, comments, and/or concerns and collaborate with the appropriate faculty and staff when necessary for resolution.
REQUIREMENTS
- Available to work some scheduled evenings and a half-day on weekends on a rotating basis.
- A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within a postsecondary institution.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (fluent) is preferred.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Computer competency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
- Be committed to a high level of confidentiality.
- Work independently
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Experience using Students Information System (SIS).
- Experience using a Learning Management System.
- Professional oral, written, and communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships.
- Ability to work with a diverse team and contribute to a positive work environment as a team player.
