40 hr/wk; 8 hour shifts Day Shift – 0630-1500 with 2-3 weekday calls and every 3rd weekend call. Licensure/Certification:
Certified surgical assistant, certified surgical technologist and clinical licensures as appropriate with the above Education.
Holds current certification by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist as a first assistant or the National Surgical Assistant Association on the Certification of Surgical Assistants or any entity approved by the National Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).
Surgical Technologist must also hold a Surgical Technologist certification.
Current certification American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
Must meet one of the following Education and Experience qualifications:
LPN or with three years of experience as a LPN and certification as a Surgical First Assist, or
Surgical Technologist with three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist and certification as a Surgical First Assist and a Surgical Technologist, or
High School Education/GED with completion of Surgical First Assist Program and five years of Surgical First Assistant experience and certification as a Surgical First Assist.
Mandatory Experience:
Clinical experience as a surgical assistant preferred
A certified assistant skilled with endoscopic vein harvesting.
Extensive knowledge of the clinical aspects of surgery.
Skilled in preparing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and co-workers.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Knowledgeable in basic patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of care to provide on-going patient care.
Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
Skill in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, hospital, medical staff and the public.
Ability to analyze situations and apply critical thinking.
Ability to communicate clearly.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
