JOB TITLE: ASC Surgery Center Medical Assistant SUPERVISOR: Director of Surgery HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt (Variable 10hr shifts Monday - Friday) DEPARTMENT: Day Surgery HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for greeting patients, family members, and others who arrive at the facility; handling incoming telephone calls; and directing visitors and calls as appropriate. Assist patients to and from car and surgical areas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Respond appropriately to emergency codes. *
2. Restock and clean designated areas. *
3. Put away linen, scrubs etc. from laundry. *
4. Help with daily/weekly/monthly outdates. *
5. Assist with examinations or other surgical procedures as requested by the physician or registered nurse. *
6. Assist in Phase 2 post-anesthesia recovery of surgical patients at the direction of an RN. *
7. Do vital signs as requested by RN. *
8. Help patients in dressing area as needed pre or post-surgery.
9. Act as back-up to registration as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to:
10. Greet patients, family members, salespeople and other visitors to the facility. Direct them to proper person or location in the facility.
11. Make visitors feel welcome by greeting, offering refreshments as appropriate, escorting them to proper locations/individuals, and keeps visitors informed by providing proper updating information.
12. Check-in and register patients as needed.
13. Demonstrate complete understating of established emergency procedures for the Surgery Center. *
14. Complete all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner. *
15. Assist in room turnovers in O.R. or bed turnover in Pre/Post. *
16. Uses appropriate use of PPE for patient care and other settings where required. *
17. Be an active participant in committees (i.e. Safety Committee, Infection Control). *
18. Participate in orienting new staff. *
19. Maintain regular work attendance and punctuality. *
20. Understand hazard risk and demonstrate complete understating of established emergency procedures for the Surgery Center. *
21. Reports incidences or issues through chain of command and maintains confidentiality. Complete all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner. *
22. Assist/floats to other departments as needed.
23. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business. *
24. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, patients and vendors. *
25. Abide by company policies. *
26. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or equivalent
Current CPR certification
PREFERENCES:
Basic understanding of Medical Terminology
Basic understanding of infection control
