Solicitor - Part Time

The City of Suwanee is seeking a part time solicitor to provide legal support for the Suwanee Municipal Court. Court is generally held on Tuesdays and Thursdays with a morning and an afternoon session on most days.

Essential Duties:

Provide legal advice and guidance to the court on matters related to local laws and ordinances, including traffic violations, code violations and other minor offenses.
Represent the City of Suwanee and the Suwanee Municipal Court in legal proceedings, including making court appearances and arguing on behalf of the municipality.
Negotiate plea agreements with defendants and their attorneys in order to resolve cases quickly and efficiently.
Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established guidelines; and makes recommendations to existing standards and procedures.
Be responsible for answering discovery requests, examining police evidence, preparing cases for court, and determining which cases warrant prosecution.
Facilitate the City’s Hope program for young drivers.
Conduct trials and evaluate cases for the pre-trial diversion program.
Research legal questions and evaluate the impact on Municipal Court policies and procedures.
Advise, assist, and educates officers regarding the enforcement of applicable laws.
Conduct research in assigned case areas; utilizes a variety of resources for research, including computerized legal databases and reference materials; and determines whether information is pertinent and relevant to specific cases.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be a licensed attorney in the State of Georgia.
Have at least two years prosecutorial experience in a Georgia municipal court of record.
Obtain GCIC certification within 30 days of hire

Experience:
Two years prosecutorial experience in a Georgia municipal court of record preferred

Compensation:
There are generally two court sessions per day and the rate is $450 per session. There is additional pay for meetings as needed and warranted.
