Risk and Compliance Coordinator

Job Summary
The Risk & Compliance Coordinator will report to the Director of Risk Management & Compliance and Corporate Compliance Officer. Risk & Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency and smooth operations for the Director and the department through provision of administrative, clerical and project support. This position performs substantive and procedural legal work as authorized by law; to include a variety of routine legal and administrative duties, as well as assisting in complex matters. This individual drafts, reviews and revises correspondence, contracts and legal filings within their scope. Assists with responding to pleadings, such as complaints, subpoenas, interrogatories, discovery demands, deposition notices and pre-trial orders. They complete legal research to support department activities. Position assists with all administrative aspects of managing SRH’s Contract Management Systems. Handles administrative tasks such as scheduling interviews, meetings, depositions; filing papers, answering telephone calls and maintaining and organizing reference / case files. This position will encourage timely, accurate and complete communication by and between all stakeholders. This individual is able to use independent thinking and good judgment to ensure that critical issues are dealt with immediately.

Essential Functions
Provide high quality customer service using professionalism, confidentiality and good judgment. Assures smooth operation of Department and Director by performing administrative tasks such as: Scheduling interviews, meetings, depositions; Establishing and maintaining a filing system for the Director and Department files, to include case binders; Answering, directing and responding to phone calls, taking messages and fielding/answering all routine and non-routine questions; Mail and document delivery; Maintaining an accurate schedule for Director. Prepare, proof and edit documents, correspondence, spreadsheets and reports as directed ensuring accuracy and meeting all established deadlines. As needed, support Director by attending investigations and interviews, taking and preparing notes and summaries of the meetings. Attend Corporate Compliance Committee, supporting the Director through maintenance of minutes and action plans. Monitors completion of action plan requirements. Assists with responding to complaints, subpoenas, interrogatories, deposition notices, pre-trial orders and discovery demands. Performs research; researching facts as well as identifying the appropriate laws, judicial decision, legal articles and regulatory requirements relevant to the topic at hand and their applicability to the organization. To the degree allowed, interprets regulations. Prepare, coordinate and organize meetings as required to include room reservations, nutrition, notification and reminders to members, and distribution of meeting materials and minutes. Assist with creation of monthly reports as required by the Director. Maintain reports for timely distribution, ensuring that all data is gathered from myriad of sources. Provides status outlines on activities of specific projects and all projects in total. Assist in insurance and risk management assignments including monitoring, reviewing and collecting Certificates of Insurance. Administrative and clerical support of SRH’s Contract Management System; monitoring annual evaluation status, monitoring of performance metric collection and preparing monthly status reports. This position will encourage timely, accurate and complete communication by and between all stakeholders. Provided input to the Director of Risk Management/Compliance on any identified issues, deficiencies, individual staff performance through the review of completed work assignments, work techniques and adherence to Service Standards and Universal Attributes.Assists Risk Management Department in maintaining a service based organization in support and promotion of the Service Standards. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned by Director.

Education
Bachelor's degree in Business preferred. Certificate of completion / diploma from paralegal studies program (preferably ABA approved) or equivalent legal education.

Experience/Training
Minimum of five years of paralegal and administrative experience in a legal and healthcare environment with increasing responsibility. Demonstrated proficiency in business writing and oral communication using correct grammar. Proficient and accurate typing skills. Experience in insurance or risk management or a related field is preferred. Extensive experience and knowledge of substantive legal concepts, legal research and documents, legal and healthcare terminology, laws, judicial decisions, court jurisdictions and procedure. Expert computer skills. Demonstrated expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Products; required: Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.

License/Certifications
Paralegal Certificate preferred.

Able to interact professionally and effectively with clinicians, outside counsel and other key stakeholders. Ability to mitigate conflict and communicate in a collaborative and positive manner. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work autonomously to drive assignments and meet multiple demands simultaneously. Must be able to work with little instruction on day-to-day work and general instructions on new assignments. Able to recognize legal and technical issues and effectively recommend course of action. Recognition of problems and abnormalities, exercising judgment to resolve. Ability to analyze files and matters, determine required information and seek action to obtain that information. Ability to organize large volumes of diverse materials and draft complex documents. Ability to handle pressure, long hours and deadlines. Ability to stand on feet for 8 hours or more per day and/or sit for 8 hours or more per day. Ability to lift and move files or boxes up to 20 pounds. Adherence to recognized ethical standards and rules of professional responsibility. Possess and maintain reliable transportation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.

Skagit Regional Health offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 457b/401a (retirement), long term disability, and paid time off to all employees holding an FTE of 20 or more hours per week. Eligible employees also receive sick time pay.
