Right of Way Tree Trimmer -


The primary location of this position is on the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

Primary duties will be to contribute to the clearing of powerline right-of-way (ROW), cutting and dragging brush, trees, flagging traffic, chipper operation, spraying, grounds support for both tree trimmers and linemen, knot tying, assisting with repair and maintaining of all related tools and equipment used by the ROW crew. Work around hazardous equipment and in close proximity to energized power lines. Considerable knowledge of the use of PPE. Participates in the construction, relocation, maintenance and repair of underground and overhead primary and secondary distribution lines. Participates in the construction of extensions to the primary distribution system including setting poles, making cross-arm attachments, and placing necessary lines and hardware. Participates in constructing secondary service lines to buildings. Repairs electric distribution equipment and facilities during power failures; makes comprehensive and emergency repairs. Drives special service equipment and bucket trucks when responding to service requests requiring utilization of such vehicles. Performs related duties as required and works on-call shift on a rotating basis. Ability to work in all weather conditions and long hours when required.

Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Some knowledge and/or ability to learn the standard practices, materials, techniques, and safety precautions involved in the clearing and cutting of powerline right-of-way. Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of right-of-way equipment, apparatus, and tools. Some knowledge and/or ability to learn the application of safety methods used in the maintenance and clearing of ROW (SAFETY IS ALWAYS THE HIGHEST VALUE). Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in ROW maintenance, and repair. Ability to exercise proper safety precautions and perform necessary work where required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisory personnel and fellow co-workers.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalency and six months of electrical experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
