Job Description: The physical therapy and exercise technician will support the Special Population Personal Training Team and Physical Therapy Team in all areas of client care as well as office and gym support as listed below. This is a great job for anyone wishing to have a year or two of experience while applying to any health related graduate program or to launch your career as special populations Personal Trainer or Activity-Based Neuro Exercise Specialist. Reports to: Director of Clinical Services Status: Non-Exempt - hourly Roles and Responsibilities may include:
Instruct, motivate, safeguard, or assist patients during rehabilitation or exercise sessions according to their Plan of Care, under direction of the physical therapy team and exercise training team.
Open and close duties for facility including cleaning
Work with housekeeping and maintenance throughout day to assure a clean and safe facility
Transport clients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support to prepare for session.
Secure clients safely onto exercise equipment.
Job Requirements: · Strength – Candidates must demonstrate sufficient upper body and trunk strength in order to assist with client lifting and completing locomotor training (assisted treadmill) skills. Must be willing to learn skill, receive feedback on technique, and deliver assist with treadmill training with no difficulties. Good flexibility and endurance strength required in all limbs and trunk to complete this task. · No previous injuries to back, shoulder, neck, or other musculoskeletal condition that may be exacerbated by lifting, pushing, pulling, or moving in a repetitive way. · Personality preferred is one that is outgoing, positive, and innovative. Education Minimum of associates degree required with an Exercise Science or other therapeutic recreation or science related degree. Bachelor degree preferred. Interested individuals in the process of applying for graduate level therapy professional schools are welcome to apply. Personal Training Certification is not required for this position but both certification and a Bachelor's degree in an exercise or therapeutic recreation field is required for promotion. Experience Previous experience in exercise field preferred but not required. Demonstrated interest in the area of disability care, specialized exercise, or rehabilitation through internship or volunteer experience is required.
