Position Summary
The PACU Nurse Manager will be responsible for directing, coordinating and controlling all aspects of the pre-operative and post-operative daily operating functions, processes, and staff while demonstrating the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities of the PACU Nurse Manager include, but are not limited to:
Providing leadership and is accountable for:
- The daily operations of the center’s pre-operative and post-operative department.
- As directed by the Governing Board, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and conducts monitoring activities as assigned so that center maintains compliance with accreditation standards and regulations.
- Working closely with the Surgery Director and reports the pertinent activities concerning the PACU department at regular intervals.
- Acts as the Medication Safety Officer.
- Designating a person responsible for the assigned department in the absence of the Manager.
- Fosters positive public relations.
- Other duties as assigned by the Surgery Director.
Overseeing Services:
- Ensures clinical services are in compliance with the respective components of regulatory body and accrediting body standards.
- Monitor the adequate function of patient care equipment through contracted services and follows-up on repairs.
Overseeing Operations:
- Develops, monitors and controls the department staffing needs and schedule.
- Foster positive work relationships among all departments of the center.
- Develop and ensure compliance with appropriate departmental policy and procedure manuals for use by the staff.
Ensuring solid human resources practices:
- Holds routine staff meeting outlining goals and priorities of the department and center.
- Manages employees in accordance with the center policies utilizing sound principles of practice and fairness.
- Evaluates performance of direct reports ensuring that reviews occur as scheduled or at least annually for each employee.
- Reviews the disciplinary action of employees in consultation with the Surgery Director and Proliance Surgeons Human Resources.
- Assists in recruiting & evaluating applicants for employment in new or vacant positions.
- Monitors employee productivity and assures efficiency of staff levels through increases or reductions in the work force as necessitated by changes in surgical case volume.
- Implements a program of job based orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation for all department employees.
- Provides educational opportunities for professional staff development.
- Promotes the implementation of positive customer relations by the employees.
Implementing and evaluating a continuous Performance Improvement Program:
- Identifies, reports on quality care issues and as directed implements corrective measures.
- Monitors statistical indicators to use in evaluating the overall department operations and quality of care provided.
- Serves as a member of the Quality Improvement Committee.
Administrative Representative:
- Act in accordance with the vision, mission, and business philosophy of the center and Proliance Surgeons.
- Maintain membership in professional associations relevant to department.
- Stay current in changes in the healthcare environment, clinical practice standards, regulatory and legislative issues and laws, and act accordingly in the best interest of the center.
Education/Experience
- Registered Nurse – Washington State License required.
- Two or more years of experience in peri-anesthesia nursing or Critical Care environment (ER, ICU, etc.)
- Two or more years of ASC experience, with an interest in learning regulatory compliance.
- BLS, ACLS, & PALS certification required.
- CAPA &/or CPAN certification required.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word skills; ASC practice management systems and electronic medical records.
