We are looking for full-time Oncology Veterinary Technician Caregiver to join our team. If you’re looking to advance your skill set and work in a fast-paced environment where every day looks different, we want to work with you!
Avets operates as a whole hospital team, offering opportunities to train and work with both Specialty and Emergency veterinarians. We pair new hires with a mentor to guide them through their introductory period. This is a full-time, hourly position, working 4 ten-hour shifts per week.
The Oncology Technician Caregiver assists the Oncologist in delivering precise and efficient patient care. He/she ensures smooth patient flow and conducts various procedures, including radiographs, lab work, and chemotherapy administration. This role is expected to have significant and compassionate client communication: in-person, phone calls and electronically. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills. The technician is also responsible for thorough and accurate medical documentation in the hospital’s PIMS and Whiteboard systems.

Experience state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking surgeries and procedures.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Facilitate the doctor’s schedule to align with patient care needs.
- Timely, thorough, and accurate patient care client interactions including collecting history for appointments and medication management and refills.
- Ensuring a smooth and excellent client experience through communication, schedule management, and answering questions/concerns.
- Perform lab work, radiographs, and sample submission.
- Perform general anesthesia and sedation monitoring for procedures
- Appropriately handle chemotherapy medications per hospital standards
- Proficient IV catheter placement and venipuncture skills
- Administer chemotherapy treatments as directed by Oncologist
- Maintains hospital cleanliness by performing general cleaning duties: Laundry, sweeping, mopping, etc.
- Other duties as needed
Skill requirements:
- Strong ability to multitask and anticipate needs.
- Excellent communication both written and verbal.
- Experience using Medical Record and Whiteboard programs in a veterinary setting.
- Venipuncture skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Experience using Medical Record and Whiteboard programs in a veterinary setting.
- Attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with both clients and team members.
Minimum qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience is required.
Preferred qualifications:
- Pennsylvania Certified Veterinary Technician certification is preferred but not required.
- At least 2 years of Veterinary Technician experience in a Specialty Hospital.
- Experience running anesthesia.
- Physical Requirements: This job is physically active and requires frequent bending. It also requires routine lifting and restraining of animals that exceed 50 pounds.
