Morris Brown College is seeking qualified candidates for Director of Counseling and Student Accommodations

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, the Director of Counseling and Student Accommodations is responsible for overseeing and managing the counseling services provided to students at Morris Brown College. This role includes developing programs to promote mental health and wellness and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards in counseling practices. The Director will also focus on creating an inclusive environment that meets the diverse needs of the student population, including providing accommodations for students with disabilities and other unique challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Develop and implement counseling services policies and procedures.
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Create and oversee mental health programs, workshops, and outreach initiatives aimed at promoting student well-being.
    • Assess the effectiveness of counseling programs and make data-driven improvements.
  • Counseling Services:
    • Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, psychological, or academic challenges.
    • Develop and implement intervention strategies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Collaboration and Outreach:
    • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community organizations to promote mental health awareness and support.
    • Serve as disability services liaison to ensure appropriate accommodation is in place for students with disabilities.
  • Crisis Intervention:
    • Respond to and manage crisis situations involving students, providing immediate support and intervention as necessary.
    • Develop crisis response protocols and train staff on crisis management procedures.
  • Assessment and Reporting:
    • Conduct needs assessments to identify student mental health trends and service needs.
    • Prepare reports on counseling services, including usage statistics and program outcomes for institutional review.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure that counseling services comply with federal, state, and institutional regulations, including HIPAA and FERPA.
    • Stay current with best practices and legal standards in mental health services.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Minimum of a Master's degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a counseling or mental health setting. 5 years of experience, preferred.
    • Experience working in an educational environment is preferred.
  • Licensure:
    • Current licensure as a mental health professional (LPC, LCSW, Psy D, etc.).
Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse populations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in assessing and providing appropriate accommodation for students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues, crisis intervention strategies, and therapeutic modalities.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions for program improvement.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within counseling services.

  • Participation in professional development and continuing education opportunities.
