Mixing Opr - Continuous Department - D shift - 7:30am to 7:45pm ( 4 on / 4 off)
JOB TITLE: Mixing Operator JOB GRADE: NE07 FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt DEPARTMENT NAME: P-1 / Continuous DEPARTMENT CODE: FRMSCD REPORTS TO: Supervisor
I. POSITION SUMMARY
Operates and monitors the mixing process, which involves the mixing of material weigh batches, water, surfactants, dies, and binders. This process supplies the extrusion process, which is an integral procedure in the manufacturing of dried, formed products. Those products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, in which ceramic products are produced that meet the required specifications & quality standards.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):
Performs mixing start-up/power-up procedures according to established work instructions
Investigates and acknowledges all alarms before starting the plow mixer operations
Verifies the body identification; empties the super sack or bin into the dump station; records the weigh batch number, weight of the batch and the weight of the binder and silica; and starts the plow mixer dry mixing time
Verifies the water set point and body type on the panel view screen before starting the water weighing operation; sets the system in the Auto mode and then the system weighs the water to the set point and then dumps into the mixing tank; and starts and monitors the mixing process
Performs moisture tests for each batch; records the information; and verifies that the moisture content is within specifications for production
Operates AO reclaiming process which involves the particle size reduction (grinding) of unused, uncontaminated extruded AO material; places the ground, reclaimed material into tote; and adds reclaimed AO into the plough mixers as needed, according to established procedures
Enters data into the company’s information systems
H. Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists
I. Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities as needed
J. Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials
K. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A. Required Education and/or Experience
1. Must be able to successfully complete all required job training.
2. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 3. 6-month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent 4. CRC Bronze or above
B. Required Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend work instructions. Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
C. Required Mathematical Skills
1. Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.
D. Required Reasoning Ability
1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
2. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
E. Other Preferred Skills
1. Certified Production Technician program completion

VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions; work in high, precarious places; and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE
A. Face masks are required per CDC guidelines, effective 10/1/2021
B. Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property
C. Safety goggles may be required while performing certain job duties.
D. Task appropriate gloves may be required while performing certain job duties.
Respirators are required in designated areas or under prescribed work conditions.
Regularly scheduled testing is performed for: lung capacity (i.e. spirometry test), hearing, and respirator fit.
