Medical Assistant - Radiation Oncology

Overview:

Medical Assistant

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute is looking to add a Certified Medical Assistant to its team in Eugene, Oregon. As part of the Radiation Oncology department, this MA will be instrumental in helping the team manage incoming calls and communications and supporting the team with daily assigned tasks. Ideal for an MA looking to take their practice to the next level, this position will be part of a collaborative team of clinical professionals helping our patients navigate their various treatments. The Rad Onc Medical Assistant plays a vital role in the timing and sequencing of the radiation therapy department. Seeking a team player with great interpersonal skills who is able to pivot and support the team.

The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $20.00-$29.54 . The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Location : Eugene, OR
Responsibilities:
  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
  • Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Processes, sends and follows up on imaging, genetic testing and misc. orders
  • Attains insurance prior authorization for medication and consult referrals.
  • Performs chart prep for upcoming patient appointments.
  • Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Performs other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc, as requested by supervisor.
  • Order, process, and close the loop on imaging orders.
Qualifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Experience with refill protocols in clinic or hospital setting strongly preferred
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants
  • NCMA certification required
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire
