The Laboratory Manager reports directly to the Chairperson and is responsible for overseeing the set up/take down of lower division labs, maintenance of lab equipment, managing lab spaces, chemicals, wastes, and supplies, ordering and preparation of lab materials, and other duties as assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare for, set up and take down of weekly lower division laboratories.
Train and supervise student employees and graduate students who assist in preparation and set up/take down of lower division laboratories.
Inventory and maintain chemicals, specimens, models, cultures, and laboratory equipment; manage materials utilization.
Order lab supplies and equipment for lower and upper division laboratories as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of teaching laboratories, laboratory preparation rooms, and related storage areas.
Assist in maintenance and disposal of biohazardous and chemical wastes and follow appropriate environmental safety guidelines.
Advise instructors and student assistants for idiosyncrasies relating to chemicals, equipment, or design for each laboratory exercise.
Maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and microscopes, keeping them in appropriate working order.
Teach up to 4 workload credits or about 2 labs per semester, as needed.
Serve on departmental committees, such as the Environmental Safety Committee, where appropriate.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software, including Microsoft Office suite software.
Ability to troubleshoot simple computing and printing issues, maintain lab computers and printers, and submit work orders to IT.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the university community, and the public.
Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of equipment.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a Master’s degree in Biology or related field.
Relevant computer skills.
Training in the use of scientific equipment.
A background check will be required for the successful applicant.
