HVIP Program Supervisor, Days, Trauma Center

Job Description

In collaboration with the City of Cincinnati, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and the University Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) the Hope & Shield Network is a hospital-based violence intervention program (HVIP) that provides trauma-informed intervention and case management services to people hospitalized from injuries by violence. The HVIP Program Supervisor that will lead and manage initiatives aimed at reducing violence and its impact on patients and the community. This role will supervise a team of Violence Prevention Professionals (VPP's) and involves direct engagement with patients, families, and healthcare providers to promote healing and prevention strategies. The program supervisor will develop and implement program activities, collaborate with community organizations, and ensure the effective delivery of services to individuals affected by violence.

The Hope & Shield Network will focus on individuals injured by gun violence aged 44 years or younger in the three main settings in the continuum of healthcare: (1) in the Emergency Department soon after injury, (2) in the hospital during inpatient admission and acute medical care, and (3) after discharge in the outpatient clinic when acute medical issues are resolving and the focus can transition to support of mental, behavioral health issues, PTSD screening, and providing community

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with UCMC & CCHMC Trauma Program Leadership and the City of Cincinnati to provide overall strategic direction and leadership for the Hope & Shield Network.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of programmatic initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate the Hope & Shield Network in alignment with hospital goals.
  • Support program administration including budgeting, reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop protocols and best practices for engaging with patients and their family's post-incident.
  • Collaborate with Trauma Center leadership & Hope & Shield Network staff to identify new opportunities for expansion and enhancement of the program.
  • Develop and implement strategies to secure additional programmatic funding from various sources including grant proposals, partnerships and donor cultivation
  • Approach, screen, and enroll patients into the Hope & Shield Network, and provide a needs assessment to identify individualized resources and support as needed.
  • Provide direct support to patients affected by violence, including crisis intervention and resource referral. • Conduct assessments to determine patients' needs and develop individualized care plans.
  • Develop & facilitate workshop and group sessions with Hope & Shield Network participants to promote healing and resilience.
  • Engage participants in the Hope & Shield Network by providing unique support, information, and modeling of positive behaviors, with a particular emphasis on serving individuals impacted by violence.
  • Assist patients in navigating services, serving their recovery and wellness, acting as a role model in these settings, providing support.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local community organizations, law enforcement, and social services to create a network of support. -
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to raise awareness about the program and its resources.
  • Participate in community events and initiatives to promote violence prevention and education.
  • Regularly connect with patients and families in their communities, providing support for patients outside of the hospital environment.
  • Work with other specialists to supplement support for patients.


Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree - Social work, public health, healthcare, psychology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program coordination, social services, community outreach or healthcare.
  • Experience in program or project management or coordination preferred.
  • Prior experience helping others make lifestyle changes or other leadership experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with youth and young adults at risk for gun violence.
  • Strong understanding of the effects of violence on individuals and communities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations, reports and manuscripts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in data analysis and program evaluation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of local resources and support services available to individuals injured by violence.
  • Respect and honor for patients' rights and responsibilities and demonstration of professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Sensitivity to and compassion for the diverse experiences of people who have experienced potentially traumatic events.
  • Willingness to encourage and inspire others to make positive changes and find alternatives to acting out violently through support, modeling, and coaching.
  • Punctual and extremely reliable.
  • Ability to present oneself and the program in a professional manner.
  • Ability to take constructive criticism and work well with supervision.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Prior experience using a smartphone, email, and the internet is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers, Windows, Power Point, and Excel is preferred
