Grave Shift Mentor

POSITION SUMMARY

Supervises clients and implements therapeutic environment milieu; Serves as a positive role model; participates in activities; group sessions; conduct milieu groups participates in off and on-campus recreational activities; attend professional staffing and meetings.
*This position is for grave shift mentor to work in our residential treatment center.*

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent of Bachelor's Degree (with behavioral science major) preferred.

Training and Experience:
One year experience in working with young adults treatment/and/or care giving settings or Bachelor Degree in behavioral science.
Must possess a current certificate for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
Note: If no current certificate, the first aid and CPR certifications will be facilitated by the company upon hire.

Knowledge Required:

Must demonstrate understanding of and ability to apply behavioral/psychological theory and principles, as well as treatment approaches for young adult psychopathology. Knowledge and experience in outdoor education/recreation desired.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the milieu management of clients. Supervises clients primarily during waking hours.
  • Supervises and monitors and participates in programmatic activities to ensure consistent therapeutic effect. Understand and employs level system, rules, terminology, and group dynamics.
  • Understands and consistently employs behavioral management techniques, applies techniques for the prevention of therapeutic holding procedures, monitoring for sharps and contraband to ensure safe, environment.
  • Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner (LIP) conducts milieu groups.
  • Assists and encourages clients in the completion of homework assignments.
  • Participates in professional staffing and meetings in order to communicate the progress of individual clients.
  • Carries out various responsibilities related to the recreational and activities of clients when assigned by the Mentor Coordinator or Program Director.
  • Insures unit cleanliness and positive hygiene practices through use of programmatic tools and monitors. Can operate and train others in use of unit cleaning equipment.
  • Actively participates and contributes in the activity and physical education program of the school.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the program.
  • Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, administers medication to residents.
  • Assist clients in the shopping and preparation process.
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS

Mentor Coordinator

Physical Demands:
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift and grasp. Ability to run a distance of 400 meters in 2 ½ minutes or less. Must be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.

Work Environment:

The primary work environment is the facility itself. Other environments include, but are not limited to: a gym, swimming pool, field of outdoor activities.
