Executive Director of Foundation


Job Description
Under the direction of the President, the Executive Director of the Foundation manages the development and implementation of a comprehensive fund development program that includes: annual giving campaign, corporate and community solicitation program, scholarships, special events, alumni association, Yeti Club, public and private grant program, and a planned giving program. The Executive Director fosters cooperative working relationships among all College departments, external funder groups, and various public and private groups.

Essential Duties Summary
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit donors and grant opportunities from among community members, businesses, and external foundations.
  • Coordinate strategies for the solicitation of giving from internal audiences including the Foundation Board of Directors, College Trustees, alumni, retirees, and faculty and staff.
  • Conduct ongoing cultivation of prospective donors and stewardship of current donors by maintaining a visible presence with personal visits and correspondence as well as through more generalized communication including College publications.
  • In consultation with the President and the Foundation Board, develop and implement a comprehensive institutional development plan that includes, but is not limited to, alumni relations, corporate and foundation giving, grants, donor recognition, and overall community awareness and giving program.
  • Direct the formulation of the Foundation mission, strategic planning, goals, objectives, actions, timelines, and responsibilities, in alignment with the College; support the strategic goals and mission of the college and advances a positive image and enhanced reputation of the College to the community.
  • Manage and participate in the development and administration of the annual Foundation budget: forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct monitoring and approval of expenditures and implement budgetary adjustments when necessary.
  • Coordinate leadership for capital projects or endowments by determining viable fundraising plans, identifying appropriate donors and grant funding opportunities, determining and implementing solicitation strategies, and assisting with dedication or public activities related to completed projects.
  • Represent the College and the Foundation at College and community events; act as a Foundation liaison to community organizations, municipalities, etc.; represent the College and Foundation at regional, state, and national meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide administrative support to the Foundation in all related activities and collaborate with the President and Chair of the Foundation Board of Directors to carry out the objectives and activities of the foundation.
  • Manage and adhere to policies and procedures relating to gift and grant solicitation and acceptance; monitor investment policy; determine asset allocation; research investments; supervise investments; and, track and distribute endowment funds in concert with the established guidelines of the College and Foundation Board of Directors.
  • Lead the coordination and implementation of special events, annual campaigns, and alumni activities; develop and implement marketing strategies to promote engagement and support.
  • Maintain and oversee the prospect and gift records management system.
  • Lead efforts to identify and secure new areas of support, including outreach and substantive presentations to prospective donors about the College’s current programs and developing needs.
  • Summarize and analyze the progress of various campaigns and report the results to the President, Foundation Board of Directors, and College Board of Trustees.
  • Organize meetings of the foundation board of directors.
  • Organize Foundation Board member selection and rotation and present for approval by the President and Foundation Board.
  • Acknowledge gifts in an organized and timely manner.
  • Serve on committees as designated in the College Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Salary Range
Based on experience. Salary range $80,022 to $120,033.

Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in development, public administration, public relations, marketing, communications or in a related field.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in fundraising or related experience.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s license.


Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively and collegially with others.
  • Skill in the use of computers and commitment to use of technology.
  • Experience with current version of MS Office or similar programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with people internal and external to the institution.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Flexible and adapts to change
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple departments and activities of others.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field preferred.

Physical Demands
ADA requirements for this position include critical thinking skills with the ability to process information, analyze data, make assessments, and exercise good judgment to make decisions; possess ease of mobility within the work environment and other areas of campus; and effective use of all forms of communication (oral, visual, auditory), including use of computers. Be able to lift weights up to 10 pounds on a regular basis
