Overview: Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 50 year old multi-service not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens. KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to build bright futures. The ESOL instructor leads morning or evening classes 4 days weekly for a minimum of 3 hours per day. The Instructor’s main role is to screen/test, orient, engage and teach adult English language learners of varying levels. This role is seasonal (i.e. September-June). Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach ESOL through individualized and group instruction techniques
Comply with all contract deliverables, including but not limited to: maintaining average daily attendance, completion of Student Individual Service Plans and Progress Notes, classwork, writing samples, and achievement of the required percentage of students show at least one-level improvement at post test.
Assist students to access computer programs to be used for the class as applicable
Administer BEST Plus pre and post test screening
Complete trainings and certifications as required by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD)
Work with programs assistant/s, including guidance on student follow up needed and class material preparation, and proactive communication
Plan and implement celebratory events, trips, and advocacy experiences for students
Qualifications:
Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US
Willing to undergo background checks in accordance with federal, state and local laws
Bachelor’s Degree required
TESOL, TESLA, or CELTA Certification required
Strong computer skills required, including knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft, and Online platforms such as Google Meets or Zoom.
Experience with, or ability to learn, data collection software
BEST Plus Certification must be completed within 1 month of hire date

On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
