LICENSED ESL TEACHER Hiddenite Elementary School Permanent Full-time Ten-month position with Benefits
General Statement of Job To successfully teach and differentiate instruction for Multilingual Learners from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
Required education
Bachelor’s degree and licensed by the state of North Carolina in the required area(s), preferred.
Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English as a Second Language that meets state and federal standards.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or supportive instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students.
Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community.
Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area.
Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating students’ progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition.
Evaluates the academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records.
Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and promote effective participation in all activities.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students.
Attend department/school meetings outside of instructional hours.
Complete paperwork for the state and federal government, and school district in a timely and accurate manner.
Differentiate instruction for different language proficiency level in the same classroom.
Utilize different types of technology and platforms to deliver instruction.
Communicates effectively with parents through a variety of means and encourages parental involvement in students’ education.
Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems.
Additional duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.

Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules.
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc.
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc.
Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, care, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
