Engineering Technician 1 - Starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.

Function Statement:
The overall function of this position is to perform a broad range of construction tasks. All tasks must be performed for each line of allocation. Work is generally performed in-doors, but is not limited to in-doors, out-door work may be required in various weather and terrain conditions, depending upon the nature of each assignment. Some night time, weekend and holiday work days may be required. This position is located in District 07, Gang 227 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Clint Dyke, Engineer 6. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes, meetings and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
The incumbent is required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, abilities, as well as to maintain the following licensing:
- Specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities: Work consists of reading and sending e-mail using Outlook. Must have working knowledge of basic computer software, such as Excel, Word, and Site Manager (Construction Estimates, 2059’s, etc. . .), office management., such as customer service, payrolls, personal files, filing construction correspondence and DOTD files, answering phone calls. Work may also involve bending, stooping, lifting, or climbing; may be required to work in high places.

- Engineering Tech 1 – Entry level
- Engineering Tech 2 – Differs from Engineering Technician 1 by the presence of more varied tasks and application of basic knowledge/skills acquired through experience or training.
- Engineering Tech 3 – Differs from Engineering Technician 2 by the performance of more varied and complex tasks. Differs from Engineering Technician 4 by the lack of independent performance of complex tasks that are not standardized/established procedures.
- Engineering Tech 4 – Differs from Engineering Technician 3 by the degree of independence in performing complex tasks that are not standardized, established procedures. Differs from Engineering Tech 5 by the lack of lead worker responsibilities or performance of advanced journeyman – complex duties requiring intensive training and diversified experience in a specialized area or by lack of responsibility for serving as a direct line supervisor over one or two subordinates under circumstances as defined in the applicable Allocation Criteria memo.
20% Computes and checks earthwork quantities, computation sheets, cross sections, related field books, benchmark forms and other data to determine that quantities have been computed according to specifications, plans, and special provisions established by the agency. Keeps accurate inventory (quantity and quality) of materials used by contractor. When needed generates Daily Work Reports using site manager.
15% Assists field Engineers when they are short handed in the field. Provides contractors, and other interested parties with project- related information as requested/required. May perform additional duties as necessary to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the De Ridder Project Engineer’s Office, including preparation of monthly and final estimates.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities

Learns basic procedures of utilizing Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) to develop simple details required in plan preparation.
Learns basic drafting skills and techniques. Performs basic math computations and measurements. Becomes familiar with procedures, rules and regulations.
CONTRACT SERVICES:
Scans completed bid/contract documents into Visual Info. Performs final quantity checks on all bid items prior to each letting.
Assists in the distribution of construction proposals and plans to prospective bidders by entering pertinent data into the computerized bid system. Learns to verify license numbers and check for disqualified contractors. Assists with the maintenance of TOPS (Tracking of Projects System).
Performs final quantity checks on all bid items prior to each letting. Distributes various documents within and outside of the Department. Archives completed construction bid proposals and contract documents into Visual Info.
DATA COLLECTION & ANALYSIS:
