Summary:
Assist teachers of the deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) in carrying out the educational goals of students identified for DHH services. The primary assignment is to function as a signing interpreter for students with hearing loss and to support an efficient and effective educational environment for students to access signed communication.
Responsibilities:
Sign language interpretation (may include sign to voice as well as voice to sign) for a student or students throughout the school day so that they may access all instructional and social environments.
Work collaboratively with general education classroom teachers to facilitate signing interpretation and environmental feedback.
Collaborate with teachers of the deaf, speech pathologists and other staff regarding the individualized needs of students with which they work.
Attend monthly professional development and collaboration meetings.
Plan for upcoming lessons and activities.
Provide input for student meetings, such as formal Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Teaching and clarifying for students when needed, especially as related to new terms or language and the student use of an interpreter.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
Associate’s Degree with a major/area of study in: Educational Interpreting.
Passing scores on state or national assessment systems if interpreting skills (i.e. EIPA) OR a plan that aligns with EEIA license requirements for passing such an assessment.
Ability to provide signing communication (ASL preferred) including both sign to voice and voice to sign.
Educational Interpreter Authorization .
OR
Emergency Educational Interpreter Authorization (EEIA) from the Colorado Department of Education; the EEIA can be applied for at hire due to required District signature and EIA can be in process.
Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
Preferred:
Possess good time management skills.
Experience in Interpreting.
Salary Information:
Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
