Position Summary The Driver is responsible for transporting residents, staff, and essential supplies to and from various locations, providing a crucial link in the daily operations of the shelter.
Some of the duties include:
Transport shelter residents to scheduled appointments, medical visits, and other essential destinations
Transport residents and their belongings when they move out
Transport meals to overflow sites
Transport staff, volunteers, and board members during various community engagement events
Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the vehicles are in good working condition; report any issues promptly and schedule regular maintenance, as needed
Maintain a respectful and supportive demeanor when dealing with shelter clients, offering assistance as necessary and providing information about schedules and procedures
Coordinate transportation schedules to accommodate shelter needs and ensure punctuality for appointments
Maintain accurate records of all trips, including destinations, times, and any relevant notes
Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure the safety of clients and other road users
Communicate effectively with all interested parties to ensure a smooth and coordinated transportation process
Be prepared to respond to emergency situations, such as accidents or vehicle breakdowns, and follow established protocols
Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency
Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct in terms of privacy of client information and adherence to confidentiality policies & upholds the service philosophy
Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of the agency
Qualifications Our ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent; some experience working with the homeless, chemically dependent, or mentally disabled individuals; and effective communication and crisis intervention skills. A valid Ohio drivers license, proof of insurance with less than 4 points on driving record is required.
