Waialae Country Club has an opening for a Full-Time Director of Racquet Sports at our exclusive, beachside club; Home of the Sony Open! We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Director of Racquet Sports to lead our Racquet Sports program, which includes Tennis and Pickleball.

Job Duties:
- Manages and oversees tennis and pickleball staff to ensure a positive and cohesive work environment.
- Selects, trains, and retains the best tennis and pickleball staff.
- Schedules tennis and pickleball staff to meet membership needs and demands.
- Schedules clinics to maximize participation and service to the greatest number of members.
- Oversees scheduling of court time to provide appropriate balance of clinics, open courts and private instruction to maximize participation and enjoyment of all members.
- Works with the General Manager/COO in preparation of the annual tennis operations budget.
- Implements and manages the annual tennis budget within approved guidelines.
- Prepares recommended lesson and clinic fee structure for review and approval by the General Manager/COO.
- Closely monitors the collection of fees such as clinic fees, lesson fees, court fees, guest fees, and team fees.
- Assures accurate and timely billing to the membership.
- Builds a “world-class” program of events for juniors, women and men including annual club championships, member-guest events, tournaments, and regular tennis and pickleball social events.
- Serves as the emcee of the member tennis and pickleball events.
- Writes a monthly racquet sports article for the Club newsletter.
- Develops an annual calendar of activities, programs, and events for members.
- Periodically reviews and benchmarks programs against those at other Clubs both locally and nationally, to maintain the highest continuing level of quality for Club members.
- Operates outstanding instructional programs for women, men, and junior players.
- Develops and offers programs during weekday evenings and on weekends as well as during the day and after school on weekdays.
- Develops and offers programs during the summer school vacation and during other school vacation weeks.
- Directs and coordinates the formation of all Club racquet sports events. Serves as the creative leader of the department to offer exciting year-round programs and offerings.
- Ensures the preparation of the facility and courts for all league matches and practices.
- Coordinates team clinics and team practice sessions with team captains.
- Supervises and directs all tennis/pickleball staff in planning and coordinating all instructional programs, lesson plans and new programs.
- Teaches lessons, clinics and team practice sessions for members and their children.
- Oversees the implementation of a broad Junior Development Program that is responsive to changing member expectations.
- Ensures accurate completion of member charges and payment for all “program lessons” - (i.e., Team Coaching and special instructional programs).
- Coordinates and implements the submission of all league information.
- Publishes all roster deadline and start dates for all league play, on the Club web site and in the Club newsletter.
- Ensures the accurate billing of all member charges, guest fees, and other associated fees.
- Plans and coordinates the scheduling of courts for all member play, league practices, clinics and matches.
- Strictly enforces Club rules for attire, etiquette, and court reservations.
- Ensures that Club rules are observed by all users of the tennis/pickleball facilities and equipment.
- Reports all non-compliance to the Tennis Committee and General Manager/COO.
- Enforces the Club's Guest and Non-Member Usage Policy.
- Promotes all aspects of the program to the membership accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Issues regular updates concerning the tennis program to the General Manager/COO.
- Provides timely and relevant information and updates for the tennis/pickleball portion of the Club’s website.
- Oversees the courts to ensure a first-class playing experience for members and their guests.
- Ensures that all areas of the tennis facilities are always neat, clean, and in good repair.
- Inspects the courts/facilities daily prior to the start of play and prior to evening play; and ascertains that all necessary maintenance has been performed.
- Works to ensure that all necessary personnel for the maintenance and upkeep of the courts are hired and trained.
- Ensures that the necessary equipment for the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities is on hand and properly maintained.
- Inspects, on a periodic basis, the quality of the playing surfaces, fences, windscreens, water coolers, teaching equipment and courtside amenities; and makes recommendations for improvements.
- Keeps the General Manager/COO informed on the status of the facilities and equipment for the purpose of budgeting for replacement and repair items and of long-range capital replacement items.
- Meets with other Department Heads weekly or as requested.
- Treats all members fairly, honestly, uniformly and with respect.
- Complies with all Club employee regulations and policies.
- Promotes the Club in a manner consistent with its world-class image to members and non-members, whenever possible.
- Coordinates racquet stringing service for members.
- Takes advantage of Continuing Education opportunities to maintain professional certifications, and to stay abreast of state-of-the-art teaching techniques and methodology.
- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager/COO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) and 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Must have progressive racquet operations leadership or management experience. Experience at an active, upscale private country club is preferred.
- Must be proficient at utilizing Windows software. General working knowledge of Point-of-Sale systems and electronic court registration software is preferred.
- Must have a strong racquets playing background, NTRP level 4.0 or higher.
- Must be a certified Tennis professional (USPTA Elite or Master Professional) and a certified Pickleball Professional (USPTA and/or PPR).
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
Work Schedule:
- This position typically works 40-45 hours per week including nights, weekends and holidays. Flexibility is required based on business needs.
Total Compensation Range:
- $115,000-$135,000 (includes instruction income and performance bonus).
