Delaware Libraries-Specialist (Northern New Castle County)
Library Specialist Job description The Specialist will assist patrons in accessing health, digital, and social services, as well as other support resources, within the community. They will oversee a kiosk and a private space in designated public libraries, which will provide a safe environment for patrons to conduct virtual visits. Please note, not all libraries will have this private space available. Before starting in the libraries, the Specialist will complete an onboarding training session, followed by additional independent training over a few weeks. These trainings will equip the Specialist with knowledge of the Delaware ASSIST application, job and resume resources, housing and food resources, as well as mental health and substance abuse resources, and more. Continued education and training are required to maintain a strong understanding of community needs and resources. The Specialist will work closely with library staff, fellow specialists, the Lead Specialist, and the Program Coordinator. They will gain the necessary skills and expertise to effectively assist patrons in accessing various community health and social service resources. The Specialist reports directly to the Program Coordinator and Lead Specialist. The Specialist will undergo a probationary period to evaluate the fit for both the role and the team. Please note this is a grant funded position. Responsibilities: · Oversee the daily operation of private spaces and kiosks within the library, offering assistance to patrons as needed. · Communicate with social service and healthcare agencies, community organizations, and their representatives. · Conduct outreach within the community to promote the program and raise awareness. · Serve as a liaison between partner organizations and patrons, ensuring individuals receive the support they need. · Stay updated on relevant programs and services offered at the library. · Participate in ongoing training to continue expanding knowledge of community health, social, and digital resources. · Assist patrons with their health, social, and digital needs. · Specialists will be responsible for collecting data and ensuring its accuracy. Qualifications: Required · Bachelor’s or associate degree in social services or a related field. · Delaware Driver’s License and reliable transportation required. · Attendance at internal meetings is expected. · Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, One Drive, and Share Point. · Familiarity with social service and other relevant community agencies. · Experience with technology and software applications. · Strong communication skills with co-workers, library patrons, directors, and Specialists. · Skilled in addressing challenges with adaptability and resourcefulness. · Must be able to travel to other libraries within the county. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Creole
Knowledge of respective community resources, be New Castle County, Kent County, or Sussex County
