Job Description: Child Welfare Services Social Work Supervisor-DCFS CWS Lake Co.
Job Purpose:
Provide services and assistance to clients improve their social and psychological functioning as it relates to offering services to families, reported to the Illinois DCFS, where the risk to the child is deemed low enough for short-term (an average of 30 days) involvement, but where some services are needed to assure that families can effectively utilize their own strengths and community resources to ensure the safety of their children and prevent future Department involvement. This includes all children included in the new law enacted under IL-HB 1551.
Duties:

  • Provide an assessment and consultation with the Caseworkers of the family for service needs and assure linkage to available local community resources for the purpose of preventing or remedying or assisting in the solution of problems which may result in neglect or abuse to a child.
· Ensure the safety and well-being of involved children while services are being delivered.
· Enable families to resolve minor to moderate challenges and needs that contribute to risk to children; and equip families to effectively utilize their own strengths and community resources to ensure the safety of their children.
· Assign and supervise other Caseworkers to referrals received in the SACWIS (State of Illinois referral system) Agency Mailbox.
· Weekly home visits by Child Welfare Services workers to assess family situation focusing on safety and risk issues related to the child.
· Direct intervention, when necessary, to help reduce risk and teach strategies for avoiding risk in the future.
· Verification of families’ linkage to community services and resources to include documentation that the family has received the information and support to connect with the services and resources, recognizing that in some instances the CWS provider may not be able to keep the CWS pending while the family waits to begin service (for instance, in the case of waiting lists).
· Conducts monthly Team Meeting with Caseworkers and Paraprofessionals, as required, to ensure Program Plan goals are being met in accordance with the DCFS CWS Program Plan.
· Maintains Caseworker staff by orienting, and training Caseworker professionals, as needed.
· Ensure case referrals are closed within 30-60 days and ensure that Caseworkers and other Professionals on the Team are providing the required services and documentation within the required times according to the program plan.
· Provide instruction to Caseworkers and Paraprofessionals around specific parenting problems which contribute to risk to the child.
· Ensure that Caseworkers and other Team Workers provide linkage to medical services where the child or parent’s physical condition contributes to concerns about safety and risk,
· Provide advocacy with public systems such as DHS/TANF and public schools, as well as other areas identified through assessment of the family.
Skills/Qualifications: Multi-tasking, Flexibility, Telephone Skills, Customer Service, Time Management, Organization, Attention to Detail and Scheduling
  • Must possess excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Supply Management, delegation, managing processes, supervision, standards, and reporting skills.
  • Bi-lingual preferred but not required
Required Education:
· Masters, or higher degree required. (MSW or other master’s degree in a Human Services field).
· Higher education given preference
Minimum credential of a DCFS Licensed Caseworker or be eligible to obtain within 1 month for CWS Caseworker. (Will assist with licensure-paid training).
  • Knowledge of social services, mental health, and co-occurring disorders characteristics, assessment, care planning, and treatment.
  • Personal characteristics of maturity and professionalism with a sincere desire to work with recovering individuals.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing, e-mail, and Internet use.
  • Access to transportation.
Must be able to pass K.A.M Alliance employment and Illinois DCFS criminal background check and fingerprinting.

Pay: $5,500.00 - $5,700.00 per month
Expected hours: 32 – 36 per week
