Wage: $30.69 per hour; 2nd year rate: $31.57 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:
This position properly repairs or replaces brakes, suspension, steering, final drives and air systems. The “B” Mechanic works independently and assists class “A” Mechanics as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide removal and replacement, troubleshooting and repairs to these components on all transit equipment:
a. Brakes and all related components.
b. ABS and all related components
c. Air systems and all related components
d. Suspension systems and all related components.
e. Rear ends and drive shafts.
f. Steering systems and all related components.
g. Front end alignments and adjustments.
2. Remove and Replace engine accessories, air compressors, alternators, starters, and radiators.
3. Perform road tests on all transit system vehicles.
4. Direct the work of lower classified employees.
5. Perform other duties as assigned including any work as outlined for lower classifications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must pass all required written and practical tests for the position.
2. Must possess a valid Class “B” Wisconsin Commercial Driver’s License with a “P” endorsement.
3. Must possess a complete complement of personal tools required to perform this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to perform all required duties with minimal supervision.
2. Must be industrious and dependable and be able to perform all of the above described work within prescribed standards of time and quality.
3. Ability to use an Oxygen/Acetylene torch for cutting and heating.
4. Ability to meet and communicate effectively with people at all levels.
5. Must be punctual and alert.
6. Ability to use portable radios and follow proper radio procedures.
7. Good judgement and common sense with ability to adapt to various situations.
8. Ability to maintain records in a neat, accurate and legible manner.
9. Must be professionally dressed in Company uniform
10. Maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by MTS.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK CONDITIONS:
1. Must be able to wear OSHA approved safety glasses and hearing protection for an eight-hour shift.
2. Must be able to lift 75 pounds from the floor to chest height, pull and push loads up to 75 pounds for distances up to 75 feet while performing job duties.
3. Must be able to pull and push loads, weighing 44 pounds and 54 pounds repetitively at a minimum height of 58 inches while performing job duties.
4. Must be able to lift and/or pull 54 pounds from a standing position from shoulder height to above the head or a minimum height of 58 inches at a minimum of four times per hour for an eight-hour shift.
5. Must be able to use hands, arms and wrists in lifting, pulling and pushing loads, use hand and power tools, must be able to lift and carry loads, walk, turn, bend, stoop and reach overhead while performing duties.
6. Must be able to see and hear to aid in job performance and color recognition is required.
