Job Title: Part-Time Merchandise Coordinator Department: Mayville State University Bookstore Reports To: Mayville State University Bookstore Director Position Summary: The Merchandise Coordinator is primarily responsible for customer service, cashiering and ordering merchandise. In addition to shipment processing, receiving, invoicing, merchandising, and sales of books. The Merchandise Coordinator works collaboratively with the other Bookstore staff to meet the needs of the Bookstore customers. Primary Responsibilities:
Merchandising and Customer Service
a. Responsible for ordering and managing inventories for merchandise.
b. Develop an understanding of the ordering processes and work closely with vendor sales representatives on product selection and deliveries.
c. Coordinate buying programs, product mix, reordering of basic stock and initializing the markdown process to ensure the desired inventory levels are maintained.
d. Individual will maintain a working knowledge of the general merchandise software to include applications and processes for improving department efficiencies.
e. Responsible for cashier duties and providing good customer service. Duties include daily cash and change sales for the store. The individual must be proficient with all register functions and have a good understanding of transaction procedures and store policies.
2. Shipment Processing for Course Materials and Merchandise
a. Receive and organize incoming shipments.
b. Assist with book buyback, rental returns, and web order fulfillment.
c. Maintain accurate inventory records.
d. Process invoices for payment and reconcile statements.
e. Work with vendors on defective items and discrepancies.
f. Process book returns and credit memo reconciliation.
Minimum Requirements:
Secondary education or equivalent work experience in related field.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to positively interact with faculty/staff, students, customers, vendors, and other visitors.
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet computer applications; willingness and ability to learn computer programs. Experience with retail systems preferred.
Ability to perform essential job functions, with or without accommodations. Including lifting and/or carrying up to 40lbs., bending, reaching, walking, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to work a varied schedule as needed for events. The bookstore is typically open 3 Saturdays per year for limited hours and sells at some athletic events.
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, 12 months per year, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. M-F. Rare late hours or weekends may be required to meet seasonal demands of the position.
