Position Overview:
The Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of the billing process, including insurance claims, patient billing inquiries, and collections. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate billing practices while maintaining compliance with industry regulations. Your attention to detail and customer service skills will be essential in providing an exceptional experience to our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Billing and Collections:
- Process patient billing and ensure accuracy in all charges associated with services rendered.
- Submit insurance claims and follow up on outstanding claims to ensure timely payment.
- Handle accounts receivable, including managing payment plans and collections.
- Insurance Verification:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to appointments to facilitate efficient billing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of various insurance plans and reimbursement policies specific to optometry.
- Patient Communication:
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Provide clear explanations of charges and assist patients with any billing-related issues.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and organized billing records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Prepare monthly financial reports, detailing billing activities and outstanding accounts.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing or a similar role, preferably in an optometry or healthcare setting.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures and coding, including CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in using billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
- Certifications:
- Certification in medical billing (e.g., Certified Professional Biller is a plus but not required.
