Barn Manager

COMPANY:
This is a family-owned and operated breeding and show horse training facility located in Mechanicsburg, PA. Our state-of-the-art facility includes: heated barns and indoor arena, outdoor arena,and many other amenities.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Barn Manager is responsible for ensuring the daily health, well-being, condition, and safety of the equines and their environment at the farm. The Barn Manager will ensure all horses daily needs are met while also maintaining the condition of the overall facility. Duties include, but are not limited to, management and coordination of daily feeding, provision of water, turning out, mucking stalls/paddocks, and bedding stalls as prescribed for each horse’s needs. Responsibilities related to the tracking and stocking of grain, supplements, hay, supplies and sawdust are included. This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and work outside in all weather.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Maintain feeding schedules including supplement and medication administration
● Manage the turn out of horses to pasture
● Bring horses in from pasture as necessary
● Clean automatic waterers
● Put on/take off blankets/sheets/fly masks/bell boots when necessary
● Immediately communicate observations of horse’s behavior and health to owner
● Responsible for tracking feeding, farrier visits, and all health related updates
● Coordinate and facilitate cleaning/bedding stalls.
● Maintaining cleanliness of aisles, arena, wash bays and pasture spaces.
● Assist in misc. barn related chores. (i.e. dusting, removing cobwebs, watering and dragging arena, etc).
● Maintain and organize grain, hay, and supplement storage areas
● Maintain barn, stall, pen, fence, gate, and pasture equipment as needed
● Tracking and replenishment of hay, grain, supplements, medications, supplies and sawdust as needed
● Rotate horses on and off walker as directed
● Complete daily check sheet for each shift
● Check phone/email and respond to all work related emails in a timely manner
● Maintain compliance with all facility Policies and Procedures
● Maintain the cleanliness of the facility (taking trash to the dumpster; sweeping and mopping in the tack room, feed room, lounge, laundry room, kitchen, and bathrooms; cleaning bathroom, etc.)
● Other duties as assigned
SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Demonstrated mastery of skills in equine care and handling techniques.
  • Prior experience in barn management and/or horse care necessary.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate equipment (tractor, manure spreader, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with other employees
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Proactive, self-directed, with the ability to structure a weekly schedule to be successful
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
  • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner
  • Reports to work promptly and regularly; works well with others; demonstrates the ability to consistently meet deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 2 years in the industry
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $12.50 - $17.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
