Adaptable Resolution Specialist

Posting Description

ADAPTABLE RESOLUTION SPECIALIST, Chancellor’s Office-Institute Discrimination and Harassment Response Office (IDHR), to provide individual and community-based restorative justice and conflict resolution processes around issues related to discrimination and discriminatory harassment. Will be responsible for facilitating individual student and community-level interventions and dialogues related to identity-based harm by creating, implementing, and supporting community-level restorative and conflict resolution processes. Will report to the manager of adaptable resolution and restorative practices.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field, e.g., education, social work, student affairs, or public health; three years’ experience in the fields of education or training, investigations, student conduct, or interpersonal violence; experience in higher education or closely related setting; demonstrated knowledge of discrimination and/or gender-based violence education and/or response; a general theoretical knowledge base in the areas of student development, cross-cultural communications, and judicial systems; conflict mediation skills for eliciting, understanding, and summarizing individual and group concerns; basic knowledge of restorative justice practices and ability to facilitate restorative processes; support for MIT’s commitment to serving underrepresented and underserved populations with cultural competence and sensitivity; excellent interpersonal, facilitation, writing, and presentation skills; and advanced-level computer proficiency, including proficiency with Microsoft Office. Must be able to cultivate relationships in a diverse community of students, postdocs, faculty, staff, alumni, and affiliates; manage crises; take initiative in planning, developing, organizing, and following through on projects/plans; and work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, high-pressure environment. PREFERRED: master’s degree; master’s-level certification in restorative justice, conflict resolution, and/or peacebuilding; and advanced-level knowledge of legal issues in higher education, particularly related to Title IX, Title VI, and Title VII.
