Purpose
Your role will involve developing and coordinating volunteer roles and recruitment strategies to build our volunteer capacity, creating diverse opportunities that align with our strategic goals. With experience in volunteer retention, you will employ reward and recognition initiatives to keep our volunteers engaged and motivated. Additionally, you’ll support the development needs of our small and dynamic team working remotely, upskilling them with relevant skills and best practice knowledge. Excellent communication and engagement skills will be essential as you nurture existing relationships with volunteers and local community organisations, while also establishing new ones.

Experience
Education
- A good all-round education including GCSE’s (or equivalent)
- Degree or equivalent ILM level 5 management qualification or equivalent working experience of managing people and projects.
Skills and Experience
- Experience of co-ordinating a team working remotely.
- Experience in social care and health or voluntary sector.
- Experience of planning, developing and delivering services to motivate, empower and support people to achieve goals.
- Confident in facilitation and training techniques
- Experience of effectively managing resources and budgets.
- Resourceful and resilient with complex problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Experience of report writing able to present complex information in a clear and engaging format and demonstrate the impact of the work done to support people.
- Experience of recruitment, induction, training, and management of volunteers
- Highly competent in use of IT and experience of using a database or CRM system and a willingness to develop further.
- Ability to readily travel, including rural locations and out of office hours.
Key Duties
- Lead the implementation of our 2024/25 Operational Delivery Plan in alignment with the charity’s main strategy.
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team on volunteer-focused projects and new role development, providing expertise, advice, and best practice guidance.
- Develop and execute strategies for recruiting a diverse range of volunteers, identifying new opportunities to support our service delivery/capacity.
- Manage, support, and develop the current team to ensure they are motivated and skilled in supporting the delivery plan.
- Build and maintain partnerships with external organisations relevant to our delivery plan, staying informed on local and national volunteering trends.
- Oversee and map impactful partnerships with local organisations to expand the reach and impact of our work.
- Analyse and report quarterly on the effectiveness of team activities against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the Operational Delivery Plan.
- Maintain and nurture the engagement and meaningful involvement of our experienced, long-serving volunteers while continually seeking ways to improve overall volunteer support, wellbeing, reward and recognition.
- Ensure volunteers receive regular communication through our established channels (Volunteer e-newsletter, Volunteer Chat, Volunteer Resources Hub).
- Oversee the adherence of volunteering policies and procedures, supporting colleagues with the delivery of established in-house training for their Volunteer Mentor role and responsibilities.
- Use IT systems and packages (e.g., CRM, online volunteer platform Volunteero, Share Point) for effective service management and monitoring.
- Ensure volunteering remains central to our mission by identifying diverse opportunities for volunteer involvement across the organisation, contributing to high volunteer engagement and satisfaction.
In addition:
- Attend in-person conferences and events as required, including evening or weekend events, for which time off in lieu (TOIL) will be provided.
- Participate in team meetings, including leading, note-taking, and facilitation.
- Promote the principles of Think Carer across all networks and proactively identify carers and opportunities through partnership working, outreach, community connections and networking. promoting carers as expert partners in care.
- Work within Carer Support West Sussex’s Policies and Procedures, being mindful of confidentiality, data protection, equality and diversity in all areas of work. Follow processes and procedures to ensure that adults and children are safeguarded and the health and safety for staff, volunteers and carers is considered.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Services.
